All About EYEBROWS

Written By Gela on Friday, November 8, 2013 | 8:32 PM

Eyebrows are one of the most important features on your face!
Even though my eyebrows are dark, the outer hairs are much thinner. Filling them in balances them out.

The Best Brows For Your Face Shape
I volunteer for a wonderful program called LGFB - Look Good Feel Better. We help women with cancer deal with the appearance related side effects of treatment. Loss of eyebrows has been the number one concern that I have heard from women in these classes.

Eyebrow Tips & Techniques

  • Choose powder eyebrow color or an eyebrow pencil in a shade that resembles your haircolor.

  • Use the pencil to make a dot on your browbone directly above the inside corner of your eye. This is where the eyebrow should begin.

  • Place another dot on your browbone directly above the outer edge of the iris – the colored part of your eye. This dot marks the highest point of the arch.

  • Place the pencil diagonally from the bottom corner of your nose past the outside corner of your eye. Draw a small dot to define the endpoint of your eyebrow – it should be slightly higher than the inner corner.

  • Connect the dots with light, feathery strokes of color in an upward motion, tapering the shape as you come to the endpoint.

  • Gently blend and soften with an eyebrow brush or the brush end of the pencil.

  • If you need guidance, a Look Good Feel Better group will be happy to teach you firsthand.

Eyebrow Stencils

If you feel more comfortable with a clearly defined guide, you may opt for eyebrow stencils. Choose the shape that best resembles your eyebrows and fill in with the same light, feathery, upward stokes as above. Avoid the peel-and-stick type of stencils – their glue may interfere with your treatment.

Apply lighter, softer strokes to match lighter color hair, including blonde and silver. Press harder for darker hair, including medium brown to black. As a finishing touch, lightly brush through brows for a natural, polished look.

PRODUCTS: Flawless Foundation - Contouring & Highlighting

Written By Gela on Sunday, November 3, 2013 | 12:32 PM

STEP ONE: is to start with a Freshly Washed Face and to MOISTURIZE.

Coconut Oil is great for hydrating dry skin. It helps my makeup glide on smoothly and gives my face a dewy glow.
STEP TWO: Even out your skin tone with  FOUNDATION. My personal preference is to apply my foundation FIRST. This way you can see exactly what your foundation did not cover and you are not rubbing off your concealer. It is completely personal preference as to what works best for you. To find the right foundation color for you, rub in a dab along your jaw bone. If it disappears you have found the perfect shade.
Here I am using Almay Smart Shade Anti-Aging Makeup SPF 20 (med). It automatically adjusts to your skin color once you rub it in.

Almay Smart Shade Anti-Aging Makeup SPF 20, Medium - 1 fl oz
This makeup does have a thick texture. I add a dab of Coconut oil to the foundation and it glides on perfectly.
STEP THREE: Camouflage any skin imperfections with CONCEALER.

To cover DARK UNDER EYE CIRCLES I use Garnier Skin Renew ANTI-DARK CIRCLE Roller
Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Eye Roller - .5 fl oz

Maybelline Superstay No-Transfer 24 Hr Wear Concealor, Light 730 - .18 fl oz
My favorite concealer for skin discoloration is Maybelline Superstay 24hr Concealer - light

Crem Concealer Trio
1. YELLOW- Color Corrects dark circles & other bluish imperfections. 2. PEACH- Conceals imperfections 3. PINK Highlighter- Illuminates brow bones & temples
Green Concealer Stick
Green hides scars, birthmarks, blemishes and other RED discolorations such as Rosacea.

You can see My TIPS TO HIDE A PIMPLE here

STEP FOUR: Highlight with SHIMMERING SKIN PERFECTOR. This gives my skin such a youthful dewy glow.
I apply the shimmer to the Top of my Cheekbones, Under my eyebrows, Inner Corner of Eye, and Lips.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector SPF 25+ (opal) Achieve a subtle luminosity. This formula features ultrafine light-reflecting pearls that melt into your skin for polished, natural-looking radiance.

STEP FIVE:  A light POWDER FOUNDATION. Reduces shine, Prepares Eyes for Liner & Shadow. I use Physicians Formula Airbrushing Powder (translucent): Ultra-fine mineral powder delivers impeccable coverage for a flawless airbrushed finish. Visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores and sun damage.

* I only apply this LIGHTLY to avoid a dry, cakey finish.

Airbrushing Pressed Powder SPF 30 - translucent

I use my own SPONGES with most of my Compact Powder Makeup. It makes the powder go on smooth instead of cakey or dry. These sponges are reusable, just wash with anti-bacterial soap and water. You can find them at most pharmacy's.
Round Makeup Sponges
STEP SIX: Contour with BRONZER. Apply your bronzer where the sun would naturally hit your face.

* Stay out towards your hairline on the forehead & temples.
* Apply below the cheekbone to keep the eye area bright.
* Blend into your neck & jawline.
* You can also make your nose appear thinner by applying to the sides OR shorter by applying to the tip.
Bronzer

Airbrushing Bronzer SPF 30

* I apply this with my own sponge to get a more glowing look.

STEP SEVEN: At this point your face will have a nice healthy glow. Sometimes I will add BLUSH for a little extra color.
Mineral Wear Airbrushing Blush SPF 30
(I use my own Blush Brush for application)

STEP EIGHT: Set your makeup with PRESSED POWDER. I use Revlon ColorStay. This creates an amazing flawless finish to my skin.

Revlon ColorStay Pressed Powder (med/deep)
* I use this powder sparingly. I still like the healthy, youthful glow VS a dry matte finish. If you have aging or dry skin - only apply where you tend to become oily or shiny. I use the actual applicator that comes with this compact.

SELF-TANNING Tips & Tricks

PHOTO: My Daughter Nicole & Me
I love to use a self tanner. It's like applying semi-permanent makeup on your body. It also helps to make my scars less noticeable. Tanning solutions have come a long way since the fake orange looking stains that were available years ago.

I use Ocean Sunless Tanning Solution 12.5% DHA (for darker skintones). The consistency of this solution is like water because it is meant to be used with an Airbrushing Spray Tan System. My airbrush machine broke so I have been using the same solution and just rubbing it onto my skin like lotion. I have got this method perfected to a few quick and easy steps. This is much less messy than dealing with the over spray of a spray machine.

You can use any Self Tanning product of your choice that works for your skin type. This is just what I personally use and the method of application that works best for me:

About OCEAN Sunless Tanning Solutions

  • 8.5% DHA Tanning Solution with Medium (Natural) Bronzer Color Guide is our most popular tanning solution. It works best with fair to medium complexion skin tone types (light skin, skin that sunburns, mild to medium tone skin, etc...) and provides a rich natural looking bronze tan.
  • 8.5% DHA Tanning Solution with Dark Bronzer Color Guide. Works the same as our 8.5% DHA Solution with Medium (Natural) Bronzer Color Guide, but provides a darker bronze color guide. Beginners love it, as they can easily see if the solution was applied evenly and if any spots were missed.
  • 8.5% Clear DHA Tanning Solution (No Color Guide). Works the same as our 8.5% DHA Solution with Medium or Dark Bronzer Color Guide, but does not provide any color guide. Commonly used by those with spray tanning experience, as there is no room for error because of the lack of a color guide will prevent you from seeing if the solution was applied evenly and if any spots were missed. Clear solution prevents clothing from getting stained.
  • 12.5% DHA Tanning Solution with Medium (Natural) Bronzer Color Guide. Works best with medium to dark complexion skin tone types (olive, caribbean, latin, mediterranean, etc...) and provides a rich natural looking golden bronze tan.
  • 12.5% DHA Tanning Solution with Dark Bronzer Color Guide. This very popular solution works the same as our 12.5% DHA Solution with Medium (Natural) Bronzer Color Guide, but provides a darker bronze color guide. The Dark Bronzer Guide makes it much easier see if the solution was applied evenly and if any spots were missed on darker complextion skin tones.
DHA (Dihydroxyacetone): The active ingredient that reacts with the skin to create the tan. The 8.5% and 12.5% DHA in our Ocean Tanning Solutions react with the skin to create natural looking bronze tans for every level of skin tone complexion types.

SHOPPING: Ocean Tanning Solution (12.5% DHA for Darker Skintones) - (8.5% DHA is for Lighter Skintones)

BEFORE YOU START: The best time to self-tan is before you go to bed. You can't get your body wet for the next 6-8 hours so get the dishes done first, don't go out in the rain, don't get excessively sweaty. Get everything ready before you shower. You want your skin to be freshly washed not dried out.

Step 1: SHAVE
First shave and get rid of any hair on your body in the areas you will be tanning.
EXFOLIATE
Shower and exfoliate your skin with a loofah. Dry your skin well. If you washed your hair, dry it now so that it doesn't drip onto your tan. Otherwise just tie it up out of the way.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
*Snug Fitting Rubber Gloves
*Sponge if applying liquid tanner
To apply my liquid self-tanning solution I use the little sponge that came with my Bare Escentuals Rareminerals Night Treatment. If you don't have anything similar you can purchase one here:
SHOPPING: Tanning Application Sponge

*An Old Face Cloth
* Full Length Mirror
Yes this is a tough one! If you are going to do a full body application you have to look at yourself naked in the mirror. You can do it. Love what you got!!!
Put your gloves on and saturate the sponge with tanning solution. I cannot tan my face because it triggers my melasma. I use bronzer every day to darken my face so it matches my body.

If you are tanning your face I would start there. Apply enough solution to rub in until fully blended, you can always add more so don't over do it. Slightly dampen a corner of an old face cloth to dab eyes, mouth or anywhere that you don't want to darken. You can alternate with the dry to damp face cloth as needed. Just take your time until you get used to it.
Next move to your neck, shoulders, upper back, and arms. Do one side at a time first applying with the sponge then completely rubbing in the solution exactly like lotion. Do your right shoulder, then left shoulder - right upper arm, left upper arm, etc. If you can't reach your back you will have to get a friend to help you. I just do the best I can reaching my hand behind my back.
Take your time and keep looking in the mirror to make sure that the color looks even. Continue using your face cloth, damp and dry to even out any streaks or dark spots.

Once you are completely done and the color looks even, you can wash your sponge with your gloves still on. Be extra careful not to splash water on yourself or it will ruin your tan. Dry your gloves off and carefully remove them.

You can now use a folded up paper towel with tanning solution to blend in more color to your hands. The Ocean Tanning Solution
that I use dries right away. You can now put on comfy clothes, relax and sleep for the night.

The longer the solution stays on your skin, the longer the color will last. The next day your tan will be completely developed and you can shower as normal. You will see the tanning solution coming off of your skin in the shower. You are not washing off your tan as long as you have waited 6-8+ hours.
The key to making your tan last as long as possible is to MOISTURIZE at least once per day! Use lotion, baby oil, coconut oil, anything to keep your skin hydrated. Your tan should last about one week and fade just like a regular tan from the sun.

A few tricks for fading dark areas that you might notice the next day:

You can make your own TAN REMOVER with Lemon & Raw Sugar. Apply to wet skin and massage GENTLY. Leave on for a few minutes then rinse. Don't scrub or you could irritate your skin.

Tan Remover: works within 4 hours after tan solution is applied.

If you wait too long you will not be able to completely remove the dark areas. It is best to take your time when applying the tanning solution and blend with your face cloth. Pay attention to hands, wrists, ankles, knees &  elbows. If an area seems too dark you can even our your skin with concealer or makeup foundation to lighten the area until it fades.

GIANT ZIT? Bye Bye PIMPLE

We have all been there. You wake up in the morning and out of nowhere there is a giant pimple on your face that wasn't there when you went to bed.
DON'T STRESS!

_________________________________________

First Decide what kind of pimple you are dealing with:

*Obvious whitehead visible:
Try using a warm washcloth to soften the pimple for a few minutes. You should then be able to gently pop it with ONE TRY. Use 2 Q-tips so that you don't irritate your skin with your finger nails. If it won't pop on the first try - Leave it alone!
*Deep and Painful Pimple with No Whitehead visible:
Do Not try to pop your pimple!

*Oozing Broken Skin, usually after too much picking:
Stop picking at your skin!

REDUCE THE SWELLING

*ICE wrapped in a paper towel

*Visene Eye Drops

*Crushed Asprin

*Coconut Oil - Hydrate your skin. If your skin is too dry it will produce more oil and actually create acne. Coconut oil is known to have anti-bacterial & anti-inflammatory properties.

*Glycolic Acid is what I personally use.

*Benzoyl Peroxide

*Hydrocortisone Cream

*Bare Minerals Night Treatment

HOW TO HIDE YOUR PIMPLE while you are waiting for it to heal:
(These pictures were taken with my Iphone and No photo editing has been done other than cropping. I did my best to keep the lighting the same for each photo. Results are 100% makeup that I applied)

First use your choice of treatments to reduce swelling: I used Ice, Coconut Oil & Glycolic Acid.

Apply liquid foundation: I used Almay Smart Shade Anti-Aging Makeup
I then used Bare Minerals Night Treatment (Med)

I use sometimes use this as a spot treatment before I go to bed. It's also great to use during the day to cover and treat a blemish at the same time. It's perfect to create a shield over an oozing pimple when regular concealer will not work.
bareMinerals - Pure Transformation Night Treatment
Sephora.com

I used an additional powder for final coverage: Revlon ColorStay Pressed Powder (medium/deep)

Now you can finish your normal makup routine: bronzer, blush, mascara, lipstick, etc.
Wear something that will distract the eye from noticing your blemish. A large statement necklace, earrings, or a bright scarf.

FINAL TIPS
*Keep your hands away from your face. The dirt and oils from your fingers can cause pimples.
*Wash your face twice a day to allow your blemish to exfoliate and heal.
*Use your choice of moisturizer and acne treatment products twice a day.
*Have confidence and put a big smile on your face! You will forget all about your silly little pimple.

You Are Beautiful!!!
